Early last week I enjoyed a productive meeting with the Nurse Navigators of the Hearst Cancer Resource Center to talk about financial literacy programs for families facing a life threatening illness.
One of the case workers at that meeting told me of a binder that she had put together which covered all the information about breast cancer she wished that everyone knew about it.
That one little tidbit of valuable information got me thinking. For the past two years people have asked me to write a book on personal finance. My daughter thinks it would be a great way to get onto Oprah. "Every expert has a book."
So here is mine. What I Wish Everyone Knew About Money. How to keep more of what you make. How to spend more on those things in life that are important to you and less on the stuff that doesn't really matter.
We'll explain the basics of estate plans and what happens (financially) when a person dies. We'll talk about investing, risk and how to avoid wiping out your life savings with stupid investment choices. We'll even talk about taxes and insurance.
In essence, this book will be just about everything that already written and posted for free on the RichAndFulfilling.com website, only organized for easier reference and with a few more stories and some pretty pictures.
I am telling you all this because you are going to be my accountability team. Feel free to ask me how my book is coming. Let me know if there is information you want to see in the book (and stuff you find too boring to read, too). I'm looking forward to getting your input ... and your encouragement.

I am coining the phrase WIWEK (WEE-weck) for a repository of information put together by an expert or group of experts. It stands for What I Wish Everyone Knew.
We already have Wiki's which include more minute detail on more specific words or phrases. The Wiwek is a sort of "Cliff Notes" of the Wiki world. We'll see how this all develops.
In the meantime, thanks for the notes, emails and phone calls. I actually do read them all and do my best to respond to every one. I figure, you allow me to infiltrate your inbox each week with this missive, the least I can do is pay attention when you send something to me.
DO PAY ATTENTION to the FREE OFFER on the upper left. This was a great suggestion from DrBackman.com which allows people who might be a bit afraid of the whole financial planning process or getting bad news while meeting with an advisor.
You can test the waters. You'll find out that your situation (no matter what it is) is manageable - that there are reasonable and relatively painless solutions (no surgery or loss of limbs) to most financial problems. As long as you can be honest about what the real problem is and are willing to make a few changes, you can greatly improve your quality of life today ... and every day in the future.
Less stress. Fewer Worries. That's what getting control over you money is all about.
Tell your friends about the FREE OFFER. Share this email with your friends, too. They can sign up on the website or by sending me an email request.
Best wishes,
John
